Meet the Robot: Specs, What’s New, and Your Most-Asked Questions

New to Grain Weevil? Start here.

In Part 1 of our Quick Start series, Preston walks through the robot itself: what it weighs, how it’s powered, what’s changed on the production model, and the questions we hear most from new owners, including the one everybody asks first: is it autonomous?

Quick specs:

  • Weight: just under 50 lbs
  • Footprint: 24″ tip to tail, 24″ wingtip to wingtip
  • Height: ~14″ on a table, ~8″ once it’s settled into the grain
  • Power: internal 24V battery driving two electric motors and gearboxes, connected to the augers
  • Run time: about an hour of hard running per charge
  • Charge time: 15 minutes with the supercharger, 30 minutes with the standard charger

What’s new on the production model:

  • Rigidizer plates (aluminum plates at the body’s edge) for mounting accessories like the camera system
  • Anti-flip wings on the back
  • A rear shovel for leveling and pushing grain
  • A sealed, better-protected charger port
  • An external USB port for firmware and software updates
  • The front headlight, carried over from earlier versions, still lights the work area for the camera feed

FAQ: Is the robot autonomous?

Every production unit now ships with onboard autonomy hardware, front and rear radar that detects bin sidewalls and automates direction changes. That said, most tasks outside of leveling, crust breakups, and pre-unload inspections still run on manual control, driven from a safe distance via the camera feed.
