"Build me a robot so I never have to go into a grain bin again!"
A few years ago, our friend Zach challenged us to build him a robot so neither he nor his kids would ever have to go in a grain bin again. Grain bins are hot, dirty, and dangerous work places.
To adequately manage stored grain farmers are exposed to potential falls, entrapments, auger entanglements, and long term conditions such as Farmer’s Lung.
On the nearly 450,000 American farms with grain bins, farmers take these risks over six million times a year. Grain needs to be managed during the entire storage process and a farmer with a shovel has always been the best solution.
Unfortunately, there were 16 entrapment deaths in 2023. Even worse, one out of every five grain bin accidents happen to teenage boys.

Grain Weevil started as a grain bin safety and management robot doing the work that no human should, but it doesn’t end there. This mobile robot uses auger-based propulsion to engage directly with grain and other granular materials in bulk storage. The robot can control risk, reduce cost, and actively optimize stored granular materials.
From our headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska, Grain Weevil operates within 500 miles of 70% of the U.S.’s stored grain supply. More than a billion bushels of grain are stored on Nebraska farms alone.
Thanks to our location in the heart of American agriculture, we owe our success to the hardworking farm communities we aim to uplift and protect.
